Geomorphic processes constantly alter the shape of the Earth’s surface, global change increasingly influences these natural dynamics. The working group on Geomorphology and recent morphodynamics is seeking to quantify and further understand geomorphic processes and how they are influenced by changing climatic conditions.

In both, research and teaching, a special focus lies on the effect of global change on high-mountain environments that prove to be very susceptible to climate change. This is perhaps best exemplified by the dramatic decrease of mountain glaciers in the recent past, but also permafrost degradation, changing precipitation patterns and an increased frequency of slope-instabilities witness the radical changes taking place.
