Geography Library and Map Collection

 
  • The library of the disciplines Geography, Hydrology and Ethnology is located in the University Library, Platz der Universität 2, 79098 Freiburg im Breisgau. Stocks beginning in the year of publication 1990 are in the reading room on the 1st floor under the stand number LS: Geo ..., older stocks in the lending area in the 1st UG under the stand number Geo ....
  • The geography map collection is currently under renovation. In the future it will also be integrated into the university library. Until then, access is only possible by arrangement. Please send inquiries to cornelia.korff[at]geographie.uni-freiburg.de.
    Most of the holdings are recorded in the catalog plus of the university library under the stand numbers "Geo K …" for maps and "Geo WK …" for world maps.

The premises of the geography professorships at the “Institute for Environmental Social Sciences and Geography” at the University of Freiburg are spread across several locations in the city. The main building is the high-rise on the corner of Stefan-Meier-Straße and Rennweg with the address Stefan-Meier-Straße 76.
 
The seminar rooms of geography are located in the building Werthmannstraße 4 on the 1st and 2nd floor. The computer lab may be found in the same building on the ground floor.

Information for those with Reduced Mobility

 
  • The rooms of the Geography Department Library in the University Library are barrier-free.
  • The premises at Stefan-Meier-Straße 76 are also barrier-free, but require registration.
  • The seminar rooms in Werthmannstraße 4 may be reached via an outside elevator in the inner courtyard of the building. Detailed information may be found under this site map.

Getting Here

 
By Train
From the main train station, walk north in about 20 minutes via Bismarckalle and Stefan-Meier-Straße. Using the tram take lines 1, 2, 3 or 5 towards the city center. Change at the “Bertholdsbrunnen” stop to line 4 towards Zähringen and then three stops to the “Hauptstraße” stop. From there, take the next street on the left in the direction of the train and then take a little walk to the intersection of Rennweg and Stefan-Meier-Straße.
By Car
From the A5 motorway, exit the junction “Freiburg-Mitte” in the direction of the “city-center/main station and travel approximately 6 km. From there drive about 1.5 km north via Bismarckallee and Stefan-Meier-Straße until to house number 76. Parking may be found at:
